Fertilization: After egg retrieval, the retrieved eggs are combined with sperm in the laboratory. Fertilization can occur naturally, or in some cases, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) may be used to assist with fertilization if there are specific concerns.
Embryo Development: The resulting embryos are cultured in the laboratory for a few days to monitor their development. The goal is to obtain high-quality embryos for transfer.
Embryo Transfer: When the embryos have reached an appropriate stage of development, typically at the blastocyst stage, one or more embryos are transferred into the woman’s uterus using a catheter. The embryo transfer procedure is similar to that of conventional IVF.
Luteal Phase Support: Following the embryo transfer, supplemental hormones such as progesterone may be prescribed to support the uterine lining and increase the chances of successful implantation.
Mini IVF is often considered for women who have a lower ovarian reserve or who wish to undergo a more gentle and less medication-intensive fertility treatment. It may be associated with a lower cost compared to conventional IVF due to the reduced need for fertility medications.
