Infertility evaluation, testing and treatment

Infertility is a condition where a couple is unable to conceive a child despite having regular, unprotected sex for a year or more. Infertility can be caused by various factors including medical conditions, lifestyle habits, genetics, and age. Infertility can affect both men and women.

Infertility Evaluation: When a couple is experiencing difficulty conceiving, they should seek medical evaluation. Both partners will need to undergo a comprehensive physical examination and medical history review to help identify any potential causes of infertility. Specific tests for both partners will be recommended based on their individual medical history, lifestyle, and other factors.

Infertility Testing: Infertility testing can include a range of different procedures and tests. For women, testing may include blood tests to check hormone levels, ovulation testing, and a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) to check for any blockages in the fallopian tubes. Men may need to undergo semen analysis and other tests to check for potential medical conditions that may impact fertility.

Infertility Treatment: The treatment for infertility will depend on the underlying cause of the condition. Common treatments for infertility include fertility drugs, surgery, assisted reproductive technologies (ART), and intrauterine insemination (IUI). In vitro fertilization (IVF) is one of the most commonly used ART procedures that involves fertilizing an egg outside the body and implanting it into the uterus. Other ART procedures include intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and preimplantation genetic testing (PGT).

Infertility can be a challenging and emotional experience for couples. It is important to seek support from medical professionals, loved ones, and support groups to help manage the stress and anxiety that often comes with infertility.
